03 SAMSARA

Filmed in December 2019
Nepal
In December 2019, I was doing some work for a charity called So the Child May Live in Nepal. I stayed in a village, the name of which I have regretably forgotten, which was about 4 hours from Kathmandu by car.

I was very intrgued by life in this village. Other than clothes, and the occasional lightbulb, I had the impression nothing had changed here for centuries. I was there filming at the various, and relatively newly erexted schools, and in doing so I only got a vague sense of what day to day life in the village was like. Next door to the houe I was staying in, was a family, with three young children, all boys. On one of my off days, and with the help of Binay who I was staying with, I asked their mother If I could film them for a day, to capture what a day in their life was like. I did my best to keep up, and the only thing I wasn’t able to capture (becasue it had gotten too dark), was the two older boys helping their mother make moonshine in the evening - which she would sell at the market the next day.

With this film I hoped to show what life was like for people in the mountains of Nepal in December 2019, and how it felt to glimpse it briefly.
